Are you aware of an organization called netpets.org?? It is run by a fellow in SC. They will foster for any military going overseas to an area where it is not possible to take a pet. He told me he has fosters all over the world. There is a requirement that the person surrendering the pet must have valid military orders. If a shelter would ask to see these orders to verify that the person is indeed military & needs assistance, Net Pets will help.

Check out his web site www.netpets.org. He says lots of folks will claim they are Military, just so they won't look bad when they abandon their pets at a shelter. That is why he requires the verification of their military orders. It might be helpful & save some military pets from going to shelters where they might not have any hope.

This site also has pages for pet rescue in disasters, and particular in the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina.
